I'm leaking, what can I do?Updated 15 hours ago

It’s important that you insert the femdisc correctly and make sure it sits well behind the pubic bone, to ensure the best performance and comfort.


There are a few different reasons why you might be leaking. 

  1. The disc is too big or too small, so it sits too loosely or too squished and keeps slipping. Here’s how to figure out which size is probably right for you: our "Which size should I choose?" article. But first, check with your current disc whether you’re inserting it correctly. Sometimes a disc seems too big or too small when it’s simply not sitting right.

  2. The disc isn’t providing protection: it lies under / near the cervix, but the front rim hangs crookedly on the pubic bone and works like a spout.

  3. The disc isn’t providing protection and lies in front of the cervix, meaning the back rim only blocks the blood for a while, but everything flows out after a few minutes/hours.
  4. You have a tilted uterus. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the femdisc won’t fit. We’ve heard from women with a tilted uterus that the disc is the only menstrual product that matches their shape. So yes, there’s a good chance it works for you! Still, it’s important to emphasize that every woman is individual. With a tilted uterus, the anatomy can change so that the femdisc may not sit optimally.

So the first thing you should do is find out where your cervix is located. You can try to feel your cervix by inserting a clean finger into the vaginal opening and pressing on your pelvic floor muscles. You should feel a smooth little circle (it feels a bit like pursed lips). 


This gives you a better idea of where your disc will sit and how far back it needs to be inserted. Make sure you’re fully sitting or squatting, as this moves the cervix closer to the vaginal opening. Then you can reinsert it, gently feel for the cervix with a finger, and position the disc accordingly. The femdisc should surround the cervix. The back rim needs to be behind the cervix.

Once you’ve confirmed the disc sits well in the back, please push the front rim up properly until it sits flat above the pubic bone without a kink.
